What to expect at your Initial Assessment with us
All patients have to be assessed for suitability of Land Or Hydrotherapy Treatment.
We will offer you an appointment time that best suits you. Appointments are available in the day and evenings.
To help solve your problem we will asses you to find out the history and past medical history of your injury. This assessment is very thorough and comprehensive but it means that a better diagnosis can be made and obviously the outcome of treatment will be better. We follow the Maitland assessment procedures, from which an accurate plan of treatment can be devised.
The assessment will be 40 minutes long and will include many questions which will all help to solve your problem. We will then examine you to check the signs and symptoms and find the structures that are at fault. We will ask you to remove outer layers of clothing. Please bring a pair of shorts, loose clothing or sleeveless tee shirt if you would like to help you feel more comfortable.
After your examination, findings will be discussed with you and a treatment plan outlined and initiated and any home exercises explained and demonstrated. Usually some treatment may be started to help relieve your symptoms. We will discuss medication and advise you on simple measures to relieve your pain including how to sleep and position yourself in bed to make it more comfortable.
If you need further investigations to help solve your problem; possibly and X-ray, MRI scan , orthopaedic consultant opinion then we will liaise with the appropriate consultant and your GP to enable this to happen . We have contacts with all the local Orthopaedic and Rheumatological consultants in the area.
We also liaise with other colleagues , Pilates instructors , Neuro Physiotherapists ,Podiatrists , Dieticians and Nutritional Therapists thus ensuring a multidisciplinary holistic approach to your treatment to ensure the best outcome from your physiotherapy.
